Last night was absolutely AMAZING. Stood out in the roof deck vaping with a few emcees from The Far EXP talking about House of Cards and internet-related things, added them on Facebook, and got a flyer for a free download of their new mixtape. Then, headed back downstairs, saw them DESTROY the show (probably the best opener I’ve seen in a long time). Then, we headed back upstairs after their set and talked for a bit.
15 minutes later, Hellfyre starts their set, with milo. Now, milo has got to be my most favorite rapper of all time. He’s intelligent, experimental, and was hilarious between (and during) each track! I talked with him for a bit after his set, got a sticker to promote him (which is now chilling on my laptop). The group I was with then headed back up for some fresh air, and headed back down when we heard Open Mike Eagle’s set start up. His set was pretty chill, and he played Qualifiers, so I’m definitely happy about his set. Halfway through, Nocando pulls me aside, and just goes ‘YO NICE SHIRT DUDE!’ to which I replied ‘YOU TOO DUDE’ seeing as how he was wearing a Dragonball Z shirt. I didn’t know who I was talking too because it was so dark and so loud.
Then Nocando took the stage, and the fangirl in me that was already squealing uncontrollably, proceeded to pass out. He opened his set with an acapella freestyle, and then proceeded to kill his set as well. Busdriver, at this point, was nowhere to be found, so Nocan ninja’d a few more tracks into his set. So that was pretty rad. I headed over to the merch table after Nocan’s set and bought Driver’s poetry book ‘Shirt’ (which is actually really, really cool). Talked to Mike, milo, and Nocan for a sec, then headed back upstairs to chill with EXP again. About 20 minutes or so pass, and Driver is finally located. He starts up his set, and was rapping faster than I’ve heard even on his LP’s. His hair bounced, and his beats were radical.
Sadly, we couldn’t stay for his whole set, as a friend in my group started to feel pretty sick (he hadn’t eaten much all day). So, we had to book it, unfortunately.
We ghost dipped, and headed back to George Mason for the night.
All in all, that was one amazing concert, and I would definitely go see Hellfyre again, and again, and again.
Mike, milo, Nocan, Driver, Far EXP: you guys all killed it. Keep up the jams, you guys are gonna go far.
